The PPGCM is a top-ranked program in Medical Sciences and is graded a CAPES level 6, meaning a level of excellency in Brazil. The main objective of the PPGCM is to bring together qualified researchers from the Faculty of Medicine (FAMED) of the UFC, with the purpose of training qualified human resources for higher teaching and research activities, both at FAMED and at other Institutions of teaching and research. The research projects developed by its faculty members are focused on the main fields of Medical Sciences and the research lines are as follows: Chronic Degenerative Diseases, Infectious and Parasitic Diseases, Health Education, Clinical Pharmacology and Pathogenesis of Immunoinflammatory Diseases.
The permanent qualification of the faculty and staff members has been possible through collaborations and agreements with groups outside the program, in Brazil and abroad. This qualification has also been extended to students who have developed part of their research activities in other institutions.
